Margie’s Books supported Emily Golightly, media coordinator and librarian at Newport Elementary School, as she brought children’s author Scott Reintgen to her school to meet with students in grades 3-5. Students received Reintgen’s book, The Last Dragon on Mars, and were encouraged to read it before meeting the author in person. The goal of the project was to inspire and excite the children with the author’s visit, while also giving them the author’s book. Ms. Golightly believes that after seeing and talking to a real author, it would inspire reluctant readers to read his book. Her hope is that this excitement will spill over into students reading more books and becoming more passionate about reading.
