I created Margie’s Books
in honor of my mother,
Margie Ann Joyner Spires, who lived from 1931-2019. As my first teacher, Margie was instrumental in my early love for reading. From the first time she took me to our public library, she made sure that I had access to the books that were of interest to me as a young child. And even when she was bone tired from a long day at work, she found time to read to me. When I reflect on the number of questions I used to ask as I was trying to understand myself and the world around me, I marvel at how she always listened patiently and answered my questions thoughtfully. She was my champion as I navigated grade school and went on to college and graduate school.
